Description

I spent some hours on this, and had fun at the same time. Matt asked me to consider being more dynamic, and using space, and I guess this was my response, though I've gone way beyond that in up coming works. More characters from "The Beautiful Gate" the boys name is Cody, and he is the main man, this is a pretty fun piece so enjoy, Please remember to take the time to comment and vote, and I mean that for all the other artists that work hard on this site, I dedicate it to them, and the inspiration they give me. Thank you Diane,Thienbo,Jimiyo ,Katea, Black keri, PjClapp, Lolita, all the others there are way to many to mention I am sorry I have not had time to check out your works or write anyone back yet! I will I swear....and wow to all the photographers, you guys leave me speechless and your animal pics have given me great inspiration as well.

Great work, the lizad is very cool.
One crit - I think there should be more contrast between the lizard and the tree.
It's hard to tell where the one ends and the other begins. :) +9

I think you'll find that chamelians are carnivours...so that carrot onna stick probably wouldn't work!!! (jk)

I'm having some difficulty with the lizards raised back leg...it seems way to thick and having it run off the frame makes it all feel a little unbalanced.
The girls hair kissing the frame is also an irritation...give her some breathing space.
Losing the right tree branch (trunk?) that touches the ground would give this a better compositional movement...snaking from bottom left and up through frame in a nice sinuous movement (which at the moment the branch touching ground breaks).

I definately prefer your less busy compositions like this...and your storytelling is getting much better (I'm wondering now why the girl looks so nervous?).

:)

I like the idea of the kid dangling the carrot and the fact that the two are actaully riding such a normally small and fragile creature. Good details on his body.

I'm imaging this in glorious colour with a lush deep tropical forest in the backround, the scales of the Chameleon glistening with his body changing colours to suit his enviroment. All sorts of odd exotic insects in the air, obviously the Chameleon does not know which would be tastyer: the carrot or the insects

If I can imagine all this from one of your drawings, then it is a very sturdy foundation and a good drawing.

Your potential is only marred by your lack of colours, that said this has still plenty of feeling. Can you imagine how great it could be though?

Nice work.

Love it. The white space is effective and the characters are great, especially the girl's expression. There's something wrong with the guy's leg, though, almost as if he has two knees on the same leg, although I may be reading it wrong. And the lizard's right leg seems a bit fat. Also I'm not sure about the trunk on the right that somehow looks like an animal's leg - maybe best if you'd left it out altogether. Still, multiple leg problems aside, the bold pencil works well and all-in-all it's an effective image. +8/10

Nice drawing! I also can see this in colour...its screaming to be coloured with a chamelion in it!

Oh and if Dave is gonna get all zoological on us so am I. The chamelions toes should be positioned 2 to the left and 2 to the right not 3 forward LOL Sorry I am being a dick but couldnt resist... like the fact that its the size of a horse isnt weirder!!!!!

Nice work Aaron.

Great image – I really enjoy just looking at this one :)

It does give the impression that you ran out of space on the right… the girl could do with a little space behind her and the tree trunk bottom right is clipped and looses its flowing shape. Actually that part reminds me a little of Dr Seuss - it’s interestingly quirky and, though I can see Dave’s argument that the compo may be strengthened without it – I’d be reluctant to let it go too.

The girl looks to me to be more surprised than frightened… her hand is in a rather interesting place – wonder what she’s found - the lad seems unconcerned – maybe he’s being ultra cool – or maybe there’s something missing. Where did the carrot come from?

A carrot loving Lizard?? :p
Yep, I can see movement in this one. The Lizard is awesome, you've captured the essence of the animal too me. But I have to agree with Kaduflyer on the Lizards raised back leg: it looks off. Great use of the surface and white space it's effective. I love your amazing fantasy mate, cheers.

Love your characters, love your sketches. I agree with all of the points made by Kaduflyer, but it's still an excellent piece. BTW, what's the point of the "Details" piece, since everything in it is smaller than the original?

Weird as always! I'm proud of you! You succeded to turn weirdness into your own style:) Trees texture is great.I'd advice to add something very gentle at the background - I think it could add contrast and depth.
Great concept and execution!:)

Sorry aaron for coming in so late but ive been away to the islands and all kinds of crazy for the last to weeks. Thanks for taking so much regard to my last comments. The shape of the lizard is really working, love some of the little details like the twists in the fishing pole, line, and carrot. Also the trees in the background are quite nice rendered. It mite be neat to see the tops of them go up alittle higher just peeking around the branch in the forground so they are not so seperated from the piece in the corner. Love the shadow of the lizards tail. One thing that really bugs me though is the cropping of the girl in the upper right. She is right on that edge and it kills alot of the movement of the piece. The eye just gets stuck there. Maybe it could use another inch of space over there to the right to give her some breathing room. With that extra space you could finish off the lizards leg and really bring full circle some of the nice movement you allready have going on. matt
